The Menu Movie is a brilliant satire of the restaurant industry. Mark Mylod's film is a hilarious spoof of the pretentious world of fine dining and the people working there. The Menu is a new black comedy about a group of upper-class guests served in more ways than one at an isolated island restaurant. The movie is bolstered by an outstanding performance by Ralph Fiennes and is both entertaining and thought-provoking.

The Menu's plot is pretty simple. A young couple, Tyler and Margot, sail to the Hawthorn in order to have a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience. However, there are others with this goal. The Hawthorn is run by the enigmatic Chef Slowik, who we can only assume is Slovak based on a reference to his childhood in Bratislava. Things take an unexpected turn when Slowik serves up some surprises that Tyler and Margot didn't see coming.

Hawthorn: A privilege to get invited to even for elites

Hawthorn is a place that even elites fancy. Chef Slowik is under pressure to impress some special guests at the Hawthorn. He'll be serving a menu that tells a story, with the theme revealed only at the end. But tonight's Menu will be different. Instead of the usual fare, he's thinking about something more adventurous.

Margot is the only one who seems interested in saving herself from the Hawthorn curse. The rest of the guests appear to be accepting of their fate, coming to terms with their own guilt over the course of the evening.

The chef's cooking is seen as storytelling, so it is s the plot advances toward different mysteries that unravel. The movie is billed as a thriller, but it's instead a chilly satire with some sharp social commentary.

In the movie, a bunch of people comes to a restaurant, and then something happens. But the real fun of the movie is in the details of who those people are.

The characters are:

Margot and Tyler;
Lillian, the restaurant critic, and her enabling editor Ted;
a trio of young corporate goons;
regular guests Richard and Anne;
a Hollywood star and his assistant;
and even Slowik's mother.

What's best is that each character brings their unique flavor to the story, and together they make for a delicious movie experience. Every actor in this movie knew their assignment and played their role significantly.
