Have you been asked in school to draw a scene depicting a festival around your favourite subject? So what’s your favorite festival? Mine is Diwali so I will be telling about the importance of Diwali and why it’s the favorite festival.
One of India's most significant and extensively observed festivals is Diwali, sometimes referred to as the festival of lights. It is celebrated annually during the Hindu month of Kartik, usually between October and November. The festival is marked by lighting lamps, candles, and diyas (traditional earthen lamps) to symbolize the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.
Different regions of India celebrate Diwali for various reasons. In northern India, it marks the homecoming of Lord Rama after defeating the demon king Ravana and rescuing his wife Sita from captivity. In southern India, it is celebrated to honour Lord Krishna, who defeated the demon Narakasura.
The preparations for Diwali start in advance. People clean and decorate their homes with rangoli (intricate designs made with coloured powders), flowers, and lights. They also buy new clothes and utensils and prepare special dishes like sweets and snacks. On Diwali, people wake up early, bathe, and wear new clothes. They offer prayers to the deities and light diyas and candles. In the evening, they burst firecrackers and feast with their friends and family.
Diwali is a celebration honouring the triumph of good over evil, light over darkness, and knowledge over ignorance. It is a time to come together, spread happiness and joy, and create memories with loved ones.
